Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his close ties with President Bola Tinubu, extending his best wishes as Tinubu marks his 73rd birthday. Buhari joined Tinubu’s family and the nation in celebrating the occasion.
In a phone call on Friday, Buhari, through a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, expressed his prayers for Tinubu’s long life, good health, and a successful administration.
“When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation,” Buhari stated.
Reflecting on their political journey, Buhari acknowledged Tinubu’s contributions, particularly in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which led to his successful two-term presidency after previous failed attempts. He credited Tinubu and other APC leaders for their roles in securing another APC-led administration, now under Tinubu’s leadership.
“No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without bringing into mention, and a recognition of the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organiser, party builder, a reliable ally and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with the Asiwaju.”
Buhari emphasized that when Nigerians entrusted the APC with leadership in 2015, it was with the expectation of building a new Nigeria that offers better opportunities for the less privileged. He expressed satisfaction that this vision remains on course.
“When Nigerians handed the baton of leadership to the APC in 2015, it was a mandate to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria where the poor get opportunities for a better future and I am glad that the vision is not lost. It was a victory of all those who wish the country’s good.”
Concluding his message, Buhari extended his best wishes to Tinubu, his family, and the nation for a successful completion of Ramadan and a joyful Sallah celebration.
