Former Adamawa North Senator, Elisha Ishaku Abbo, has firmly stated that no one can successfully recall the suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from the 10th Senate.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News Channel’s PrimeTime show on Wednesday night, Abbo criticized the circumstances surrounding Natasha’s suspension and accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of political bias and authoritarianism.
Abbo condemned Akpabio’s handling of the matter, contrasting it with his own experience in the Senate. He recalled how Akpabio, during the 8th Senate, faced issues with then-Senate President Bukola Saraki, but the situation was resolved with “maturity.”
However, in Natasha’s case, Abbo argued that Akpabio took a harsher approach. He accused him of behaving like an “emperor” by suspending Natasha for six months, stripping her of security protection, stopping her salary, and barring her from the National Assembly premises.
Furthermore, Abbo warned that withdrawing Natasha’s security exposed her to potential danger. He emphasized that the Inspector General of Police later reinstated her security, realizing the implications of such a move.
Questioning the legality of Natasha’s suspension, Abbo pointed out that she had obtained a court injunction preventing the Senate from taking action against her pending the hearing of the substantive case. However, he alleged that the Senate ignored the ruling, which he described as contempt of court.
Abbo further claimed that after suspending Natasha, the Senate sought to vacate the court’s order, and he criticized the judge for recusing himself from the case rather than holding Akpabio accountable.
On the rumored attempt to recall Natasha from the Senate, Abbo dismissed it as a fraudulent process, alleging that signatures were being forged to push for her removal.
He urged Natasha to remain steadfast, insisting that no one could force her out of office. “Senator Natasha should continue doing what she is doing,” he declared. “I heard that they want to recall her—nobody can recall Natasha. Take note and write it down, we are not a banana republic. They went to forge signatures.”
