AN OPEN LETTER TO HON. ALI ISA JC, (MAKAMAN CHAM) MINORITY WHIP OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
AN OPEN LETTER TO HON. ALI ISA JC, (MAKAMAN CHAM) MINORITY WHIP OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
6th April, 2025
Special greetings to you sir.
We write this open letter to convey our appreciation for all that you have been doing to the good people of Balanga Billiri federal constituency where you represent. We are not unaware of the fact that it falls within your primary responsibility to do so, all the same, you deserve to be applauded.
Sir, we have followed closely the unfolding of the political embroglio between your good office and some members of your constituency, specifically the one between you and Mr. Thomas Umar Likka. We regret to say that it’s a disappointing saga and unbecoming of your position as a leader.
As a movement for the indigenous peoples of the Tangale land, we frown at any of our sons engaging in any wanton political arguments or uncoughted criticisms. On the other hand, we frown also at seeing people who are supposed to be ‘our’ leaders and or representatives instilling fear and intimidating our people.
If you cannot praise the Tangale people for the overwhelming support they gave you at the polls, please don’t spite them.
We are one indivisible people. We know that our continuous existence is threatened by allowing a ‘minority’ tribe (like yours) to represent us at the national level. Don’t confirm our fears.
You already have the mandate of our people, now you want absolute control?
Paulo Coelho summarised your strategy in one sentence:
“Fear again. If you want to control someone, all you have to do is to make them feel afraid”.
So you want to instill fear in the people of Tangale so that you have absolute control over us? We say no to that.
On the issue of what you considered a false accusation from one of your constituents, a rebuttal is not out of place. You have an array of social media warlords, who should have watered down the claims of Mr. Thomas with the facts of the projects in question.
While we respect your rights to seek redress in a court of law, we want to draw your attention to the undemocratic nature of such response to criticisms.
Lastly, we want you to rethink your position and retract your steps in the interest of peace and progress. We consider your action an affront on the Tangale people. “AN INJURY TO ONE, IS INJURY TO ALL. Do not test the resolve of the Tangale people. You tested it in 2019, you don’t want to experience it again.
We wish you well in your legislative responsibilities and we hope that you will resolve this issue in a more civil manner.
Signed:
Tangale Intelligentsia Movement (TIM)
