The Nigerian Army has dismissed claims of neglect, bribery, and sexual harassment in the processing of fallen soldiers’ benefits.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lt Col Apoplonia Anele, said publications by @hausaroom and Punch Newspaper were misleading and lacked verified evidence.
The Army stated it maintains a comprehensive welfare structure for next-of-kin, including gratuities, insurance, and burial support.
It listed additional entitlements such as the Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme, Benevolent Funds, and death gratuity, all processed after due documentation.
Children of deceased soldiers, the statement added, are eligible for scholarships up to tertiary level.
Lt Col Anele urged individuals with genuine grievances to present verifiable information through official channels.
She emphasized that no formal reports of sexual harassment or extortion had been lodged with the Army’s Human Rights Desk.
The Army reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct.
It appealed to the public to verify facts before spreading unconfirmed reports that could erode trust and cause distress.
The Army reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of its personnel and their families, both in life and after death.
