The Inspector General of Police has ordered all commands and institutions to urgently submit names of PhD-holding inspectors and personnel in the rank and file.
According to a wireless message dated May 15, 2025, the directive was issued through the Force Secretary in Abuja and marked as “MOST/IMMEDIATE.”
The circular, tagged “Promotion General” with reference CE:2300/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.4/292, hints at a forthcoming promotion exercise.
Police formations have been instructed to include records of officers who previously obtained First, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees while in service.
Academic certificates must accompany the compiled list, which is due no later than Friday, May 30, 2025.
The directive was sent to top police academies and training institutions nationwide, including colleges in Jos, Kano, Kaduna, and Enugu.
The Nigeria Police Force appears to be aligning academic achievements with career progression amid reform and modernization drives.
Security experts suggest the move may signal a shift toward valuing formal education within law enforcement promotion systems.
