The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has ordered the immediate return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area by Friday.
The directive was issued during a meeting on Monday at the Executive Council Chambers in Jalingo.
The meeting was attended by community leaders and senior security officials to discuss the ongoing crisis in the region.
Governor Kefas linked the displacement to unresolved land disputes in the area.
He stressed the importance of comprehensive land reforms to prevent future conflicts.
“The continued existence of IDP camps in Taraba is unacceptable,” Governor Kefas declared.
He emphasized that displacement should not become a permanent condition.
The Governor called for a coordinated effort between security agencies and community leaders to facilitate the return of IDPs.
He described the crisis as “avoidable” and urged all parties to work towards peace and stability.
Governor Kefas reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of displaced persons.
He warned that any action undermining the return process would not be tolerated.
