The Federal Government has inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee to coordinate activities for the 2025 Democracy Day Celebration.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, on Wednesday, June 5, 2025.
The committee is tasked with planning and executing events that will make the 2025 Democracy Day memorable and befitting.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, CON, who is the committee chairman, was represented at the inauguration by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
Bagudu emphasized that Democracy Day provides an opportunity to honour national heroes who fought for Nigeria’s democratic freedom and to reflect on the country’s political journey.
He noted that the occasion will also allow the government to showcase its achievements and reaffirm its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The scheduled events include a World Press Briefing and Juma’at Service on Friday, June 6, a Church Service on Sunday, June 8, and a Youth Programme on Tuesday, June 9.
Other activities are a Public Lecture on Wednesday, June 11, followed by a Presidential Broadcast and Parade on Thursday, June 12.
The committee includes top government officials such as Ministers, the Inspector-General of Police, heads of security agencies, and presidential advisers.
Its terms of reference include planning all approved activities, engaging relevant stakeholders, documenting events for posterity, and handling other assigned responsibilities.
