Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Federal Capital Territory College of Education (FCTCOE), Zuba, to formally launch a Long Vacation Term (LVT) Programme.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at a formal ceremony held in the Senate Chamber of FUL, signaling a new phase in teacher professional development in Nigeria.
Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi, Vice-Chancellor of FUL, described the partnership as a visionary effort aimed at improving access to quality education and building the nation’s teaching workforce.
He emphasized that the collaboration represents not just an institutional agreement but a commitment to shared educational values and transformative impact.
Dr. Sule Mundi, Provost of FCTCOE, highlighted the College’s readiness to support the programme with robust infrastructure and teaching personnel.
He praised FUL’s academic track record and reaffirmed the College’s dedication to delivering excellence in teacher education through the LVT model.
The MoU was co-signed by top officials from both institutions, including Dr. Rebecca Okojie, Registrar of FUL, and Hajiya Zainab Suleiman, Acting Registrar of FCTCOE, reflecting broad administrative support.
Prominent stakeholders from both institutions, including directors and deputy provosts, were present to witness and affirm the commitment to the joint venture.
The LVT Programme will be hosted at FCTCOE and tailored for in-service teachers, allowing them to upgrade their qualifications through intensive training during vacation periods.
This initiative is part of FUL’s broader mission to promote lifelong learning and expand continuing education opportunities for educators nationwide.
It also aligns with national goals to revitalize the education sector by empowering teachers with the skills and credentials required for 21st-century classrooms.
With both institutions bringing unique strengths, FUL’s academic leadership and FCTCOE’s practical teaching experience, the programme promises to raise the bar in professional teacher training.
The LVT model, rooted in flexibility and academic rigor, is expected to attract a wide range of participants eager to balance professional duties with academic advancement.
The partnership represents a replicable model for other universities and colleges seeking to deepen their impact on teacher education in Nigeria.
As the programme prepares to commence, stakeholders anticipate a ripple effect on education quality, policy engagement, and national development.
FUL continues to engage the public through various media platforms to ensure transparency and promote participation in its evolving educational initiatives.
