The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) has expelled seven students for testing positive for marijuana, reinforcing its zero tolerance for drug use.
The affected students, all from the School of Basic and Remedial Studies, were undergoing preliminary studies ahead of full admission into their chosen fields.
The banned substance, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), was detected during a surprise toxicology test conducted on a random sampling of students.
According to Air Commodore H.J. Ali, Director of the School, the test followed allegations of drug use by some students.
The students expelled are Yusuf O. Abdullahi (308/SBRS/24), Ezima King Success (046/SBRS/24), Kamba Chakiram (142/SBRS/24), and Rabiu Muritala (075/SBRS/24).
Others include Musa Isah Tifima (068/SBRS/24), Nwukoso Joseph Ndubisi (149/SBRS/24), and Matthew Moses Ojonimi (065/SBRS/24).
Wing Commander Bassey Ibiang Okon, Director of Public Relations, confirmed their immediate expulsion to serve as a deterrent to others.
He stated that AFIT consistently warns new students during orientation about the ban on narcotics and outlines penalties in the Student Code of Conduct.
The Institute reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline and maintaining a drug-free academic environment.
