Seven officers of the Nigerian Navy have been decorated with their new ranks of Lieutenant Commander at a ceremony held on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.
The event, known in naval tradition as the “shipping of stripes,” marked a significant milestone in the careers of the decorated officers.
According to Commodore Adams-Aliu, Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, the ceremony recognized the officers’ exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to the nation.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, was represented by Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abdullahi Dewu, Chief of Policy and Plans, Naval Headquarters.
Rear Admiral Dewu praised the officers for their professionalism and commitment, describing their promotion as a well-deserved reward for hard work.
He also acknowledged the vital role played by the officers’ families in supporting them, enabling focus and excellence in their duties.
“Today’s ceremony is a celebration of hard work, integrity, professionalism and perseverance,” Rear Admiral Dewu said during his address.
He reminded the officers that their promotion is both a recognition of past achievement and a call to greater responsibility in fighting insecurity and maritime crime.
The newly promoted officers are Lieutenant Sadiq Alhassan, Lieutenant Augusta Aku, Lieutenant James Enejoh, Lieutenant Clement Eyeh, Lieutenant James Fatika, Lieutenant Titilayo George and Lieutenant Deborah Nwaorji.
They were decorated in the presence of their families, branch chiefs, directors, senior officers, and well-wishers.
