The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has been thrown into mourning following the death of Professor Abraham Dare Ajayi, a distinguished academic and pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.
Professor Ajayi, who also served as Head of the Department of Nursing, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, leadership, and service in the Nigerian academic community.
In a heartfelt tribute, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Ajayi’s passing as a devastating blow to the institution and all who knew him.
“The news of his transition came as a great shock and left an irreplaceable void,” the Vice-Chancellor stated, adding that Professor Ajayi was a brilliant academic who “labored tirelessly and selflessly to lay a solid foundation” for the Faculty and Department he led.
Akinwumi praised Ajayi’s passion for academic excellence, integrity, and commitment to the growth of Nursing as a profession in Nigeria.
“Many of the achievements we recorded today in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences are the fruit of his foresight, meticulous planning, and uncommon sacrifice,” he said.
Though his time at FUL was relatively short, Ajayi’s impact was profound.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that his wisdom, calm presence, and mentorship were widely cherished and would be sorely missed.
“The Federal University Lokoja has lost a rare gem. His departure has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill,” the statement read.
The University community extended its condolences to the Ajayi family, praying that God comforts and strengthens them during this difficult time.
Tributes have continued to pour in from staff, students, and colleagues across the country.
Professor Abraham Dare Ajayi is remembered not only for his academic achievements but also for a life of purpose, service, and quiet but powerful influence.
