The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has formally sent off its best graduating cadet, JT Adekunle, as he proceeds for advanced military training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
At a brief but symbolic ceremony held at the NDA Headquarters in Kaduna, senior officers and staff gathered to celebrate Adekunle’s achievement and wish him success in his new academic pursuit.
Commandant of NDA, Major General AK Ibrahim OFR, commended the cadet for his discipline, resilience, and excellence, stressing that his selection was purely on merit after a rigorous evaluation process.
He warned against the culture of favoritism in military institutions, noting that rewarding competence and dedication was essential to building a stronger Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Commandant added that international opportunities such as Sandhurst training were critical to producing future military leaders who could meet global standards.
In his response, Cadet Adekunle thanked the Academy for its support and pledged to represent Nigeria with honour, promising to apply the knowledge gained abroad in service to his country.
Adekunle’s nomination highlights NDA’s emphasis on merit, a principle long demanded in Nigeria’s security sector to enhance professionalism and effectiveness.
