The Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Pensions, Senator Fasuyi and Hon. Hussaini Mohammed Jallo, on Monday co-hosted the Chairman of the Military Pension Board, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu, at the National Assembly.
The meeting brought together both chambers’ leadership on pensions to deliberate with the new board chairman, who formally assumed office on July 1, 2025.
Adamu’s visit, according to parliamentary sources, was primarily to build synergy with lawmakers while presenting updates on operations of the board and ongoing reforms in the wider pension administration system.
The Military Pension Board, a regulatory agency overseeing entitlements of retired military personnel, has often been in the spotlight over complaints of delayed benefits and administrative bottlenecks.
But as Eye Reporters previously reported, Adamu has within less than two months in office changed the narrative by clearing backlogs of delayed payments and ensuring smoother disbursement to veterans.
Lawmakers, insiders hinted, welcomed his hands-on approach, describing it as a sharp departure from the era of bureaucratic lethargy that haunted the board.
The discussions at the National Assembly also touched on broader pension reforms, including transparency in fund management and safeguards to sustain timely payments.
Eye Reporters note that AVM Adamu’s leadership style blends decisiveness with pragmatism.
He has not only prioritized the clearance of arrears but also introduced mechanisms to reduce bureaucratic red tape, restore confidence among pensioners, and tighten financial oversight.
His approach shows an appreciation of the human dimension of pension administration, treating retired personnel not as statistics in a ledger but as men and women who served and now deserve dignity in retirement.
If sustained, his reforms could ripple beyond the military sphere, reshaping Nigeria’s wider pension ecosystem into one driven by efficiency, accountability, and respect for retirees.
With his rapid results already drawing attention from legislators and stakeholders, AVM Adamu is increasingly being viewed as a potential game-changer in Nigeria’s long-troubled pension sector.
He is seen as an emerging reformer whose model may soon become a reference point for other agencies struggling with credibility and service delivery.
