AVM Adamu Explains, Apologizes Over Access Bank Hitch in August Pensions
The Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Adamu, has explained and apologized to military pensioners banking with Access Bank over delays in receiving their August 2025 pensions, attributing the setback to a nationwide technical issue affecting the bank.
In a statement issued on Friday, 29 August, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, Public Relations Officer of the Board, said the Chairman is already in direct contact with Access Bank to ensure the glitch is resolved swiftly so that affected pensioners can receive their entitlements without further delay.
AVM Adamu, while sharing in the responsibility for the hardship caused, personally apologized to pensioners and reassured them of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and dignity.
The intervention reflects the proactive style of the new pensions helmsman, who assumed office less than two months ago and has already set a new tone of empathy and accountability in leadership.
Upon receiving informal complaints from aggrieved veterans on social media platforms, the Chairman swiftly moved into action, contacting Access Bank to establish why pensioners using the bank had not received their August stipends two days after nationwide payments had been effected.
This responsiveness, analysts note, is unprecedented in the Board’s history and demonstrates a Chairman who listens, reacts quickly, and shares in the burdens of veterans under his care.
It also corroborates earlier reports by Eye Reporters which praised his integrity and decisiveness, particularly during the historic disbursement of July pensions on Saturday, 26 July, the first time in recent memory that payments were made on a weekend.
Observers say this combination of personal accountability and institutional reform could mark a turning point for the MPB, gradually restoring the confidence of long-neglected veterans in the pensions system.
