A somber atmosphere enveloped the Olokoro-Umudike Road in Umuahia, Abia State, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, after the lifeless body of a 32-year-old man, Andrew Chukwuka Chidozie Nwosu, was discovered hanging from a fence near the roadside.
Andrew, who hailed from Itaja Obuohia Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area, had reportedly parked his car nearby before allegedly taking his own life using a belt.
Eyewitnesses recounted to reporters that the discovery sent shockwaves through the area, drawing the attention of startled passersby who promptly contacted the police.
The Abia State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident, stating: “Yes, the incident happened. One Andrew Chukwuka Nwosu from Itaja Obuohia Olokoro in Umuahia South LGA was found hanging on a fence along Olokoro-Umudike Road.”
She added that officers from the Ubakala Division were dispatched immediately to the scene. The body was recovered and moved to Madonna Mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.
“There was no sign of violence on the body. Photographs were taken at the scene, and a preliminary investigation is ongoing,” Chinaka noted.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the tragic act as investigations continue.
