President Bola Tinubu on Friday inducted two new Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters into the Nigerian Air Force fleet to enhance air power, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the president at the ceremony held at the Presidential Air Fleet Apron in Abuja.
The induction was part of events marking the 61st anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force, according to NAN.
Tinubu praised the NAF’s role in national security and pledged continued support for military modernization efforts.
He noted that the air force’s operations in countries like The Gambia, Liberia, and Mali showcased Nigeria’s defence capabilities.
The president said the acquisition complements other platforms like the Diamond-62, T-129 ATAK helicopters, and King Air 360i aircraft.
He reaffirmed security as a key focus under the Renewed Hope Agenda and promised ongoing investment in defence technology.
Tinubu emphasized that national development is impossible without lasting security and a strong military.
He described the induction as a strategic move to reinforce Nigeria’s defence leadership in Africa.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, hailed the helicopters as vital to joint operations and mission success.
He said the Agusta 109 Trekker’s versatility would boost surveillance, support, and humanitarian missions across theatres.
Abubakar thanked President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and international partners for their support in modernizing the fleet.
