The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, has fulfilled a promise to the family of a fallen naval personnel.
On Tuesday, 20 May 2025, the CNS donated a newly built 2-bedroom bungalow to the family of Able Seaman FC3 John-Jaja.
The property is located at Navy Estate, Karshi, Abuja, and was handed over in a brief ceremony.
Able Seaman John-Jaja was killed in action during a clearance operation in Amiyi, Anambra State, on 3 September 2024.
He died while manning a 12.7 mm gun to defend his team during a deadly ambush.
His courage and sacrifice saved the lives of many of his colleagues on the frontlines.
The CNS was represented at the event by Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, Director of Plans, Naval Headquarters.
Rear Admiral Ahmed reiterated the Navy’s commitment to personnel welfare and support for bereaved families.
He emphasized that the sacrifices of troops involved in operations across the nation must never be forgotten.
He noted that security personnel are constantly overstretched with multiple unending missions to protect national sovereignty.
Mrs. Merit John-Jaja, widow of the slain seaman, expressed deep gratitude for the Navy’s compassionate gesture.
Also present were senior naval officials representing various naval directorates and subsidiaries.
The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the human cost of national security.
The Nigerian Navy affirmed its resolve to stand by the families of those who lay down their lives in service.
