Nigeria Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, led Nigeria’s delegation to Cameroon’s 53rd Independence Anniversary Celebrations in Yaoundé.
The event, held on May 20, 2025, marked Cameroon’s annual Unity Day with the theme: “Army and Nation United for a Cameroon Turned Towards Peace and Prosperity.”
General Musa expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and shared security.
He emphasized the importance of fostering strong bilateral ties to address mutual challenges and promote socio-economic growth.
Cameroon’s President, His Excellency Paul Biya, presided over the occasion, which drew senior officials, diplomats, citizens, and international guests.
The celebrations featured military exhibitions, equipment displays, solidarity treks, and ceremonial parades showcasing national pride and resilience.
A major highlight was the performance by Nigeria’s Armed Forces, the only foreign contingent in attendance.
Their precision drills, vibrant musical routines, and seamless coordination captivated the audience and earned widespread acclaim.
This marked a strong reaffirmation of Nigeria-Cameroon military collaboration and a shared vision for regional peace and development.
The participation also reflected Nigeria’s proactive role in promoting unity and security across West and Central Africa.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, signed the official statement on behalf of the Nigerian military.
